Unity! the number one engine of VR | AR | computer game and etc.
I am sure you probably already know who Unity is or at least heard of it before.
So today my class visited Unity and heard short presentations of three different types of the position in Unity.
Nikoline Hogh = Core and prefabs ( Main editing in engine)
Janus = Environment Artist
Andy Touch = Global Content Evangelist
So for those who is not sure about what Unity really do :
They are Democratize Development, meaning Free tools, expands creative, and letting public to become a creators through their engine and products.
Nikoline showed us how her designing work flows work.
The work flows break down in to 4 different steps:
1.Enabling flow
2.Ensuring safety
3.Fast Iteration
4.User Center Development
Enabling Flow is enabling creators in their artistic process and goals; Enabling flows to state in which a person feels challenge but PRODUCTIVE.
And it must be designed for people to stay in context!
Ensuring Safety is to create safe environment that is predictable and stable due to fast innovation that requires many divergent idea to be expand.
But WHY? because people are more likely to fear of failing when the product is not predictable.
Fast Iteration is quicker we see the outcomes the more iterations designers can create.
User Center Development goes in two three step process:
Idea > Engage > Finalize
In a simple version
Solution > Test > Final product
Environment Artist
This position creates a level of design! Meaning the artist will create the whole environment/background image of game that is acceptable to the theme and the goal of the game. As well as how the company want users to experience while engaging with game environment.
Global Content Evangelist
I think simple and easy way to explain this position is pretty much a DEMO.
This designers are the first guard who tries out the program before it is out to try and figure out the easy ways of using the program. It's just exactly like how the game Youtubers and Twitchers are doing.
